VCA Animal Hospitals demonstrates that when organizations work together, small change benefits local companion animal welfare organizations

PORT SAINT LUCIE, FL – September 5, 2018 – VCA Charities, the nonprofit partner of the nation’s largest animal hospital network, VCA Animal Hospitals, together have successfully raised over $565,000 to support regionally selected companion animal welfare organizations in the annual company-wide Pennies for Pets campaign.

From April to June 2018, VCA Animal Hospitals (Berwyn, Westerville, Aurora, Mill Run, Sawmill, Woodford, Advanced Veterinary Care Center of Indiana, College Hill, Northview, Arboretum, Great Lakes, Findlay, Findlay Animal Care Center, Fairleigh, Holly Farms, Midwest Vet, Tiffin, Southwest Michigan and Woodford Boarding and Grooming) collected donations by encouraging clients to round up their transaction amounts to the nearest dollar or donate online. The local campaign raised $20,205.31 which supports Project Paws Alive who is dedicated to providing lifesaving, K-9 equipment such as: bullet and stab-proof vests, first aid kits, vehicle heat alarms, cooling vests, and pet oxygen mask kits to law enforcement, fire, search and rescue, EMS, and military nationwide.

“The Central region hospitals were looking for an organization that supports working and service dogs. Because of the work that Project Paws Alive does, we unanimously agreed to support them,” explained Regional Vice President of the Chicago-area hospitals and Regional Operations Director for the Central Region’s Specialty Hospitals, Lorrie Nimsgern. “As we found out more about this wonderful group of volunteers and their work across the country, the hospitals were very excited to raise money for such a worthy cause and our clients were happy to help us reach our goals. We are truly grateful to our staff and our clients”, continued Nimsgern.

“We are thankful for the generosity of VCA’s clients across the country who have demonstrated their generosity by rounding up their purchases to the nearest dollar and helping us achieve our ambitious fundraising goal during this year’s successful campaign,” said Ron Tatum, VCA Charities executive director. “Donated small change resulted in raising over half a million dollars that directly benefit community-based animal welfare organizations who are essential to ensuring that all pets in need have a better chance for a happy and healthy life. This donation is part of the $565,000 raised across the country through our Pennies for Pets campaign.”

“We want to thank all of those clients, donors and staff for helping to make this year’s Pennies for Pets a success in our local hospitals,” said Regional Operations Director for the Columbus, OH and Kentucky hospitals, Keri Russel-Hughes. “These funds are helping our valued animal welfare partner groups improve the lives of pets in our community so local animals get a better chance for a forever home and a happy life.”
